Catholic Youth Expeditions

The Missionaries of the Word are blessed to work closely with Catholic Youth Expeditions (CYE), founded and directed by Father Quinn Mann. CYE is a pre-formative intermediary community for youth and young adults.  Its mission is, “To encounter Jesus Christ and foster Catholic Christian community through expedition retreats of prayer, proclamation of the Gospel, and outdoor adventure.”  As Fr. Quinn often explains, CYE is not a camp because the primary activity on an expedition is not activity, but contemplation, the time spent simply being with the Lord in prayer.  While on expedition retreats, the Missionaries of the Word are blessed to spend time with youth and young adults, meeting them where they are at, listening to them, sharing meals, hiking (occasionally pier jumping), and sharing the joy of the Gospel.  We are blessed to also have the time to teach young people how to enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus, the Word made flesh, in sharing how to pray, especially in Eucharistic Adoration, Liturgy of the Hours and Lectio Divina.

With the grace of God,  when more sisters have completed formation we are eager to proclaim Christ in parishes and schools throughout the diocese in addition to CYE.  Following Christ, we will go out to make disciples of all nations.  Prayer will guide how our future apostolate unfolds.

The essential mission of those religious undertaking apostolic works is the proclaiming of the word of God to those whom he places along their path, so as to lead them towards the faith. Such a grace requires a profound union with the Lord, one which enables the religious to transmit the message of the Incarnate Word in terms which today’s world is able to understand.
