Luke 18:35-43 (Jesus heals a blind beggar near Jericho)
In today's gospel there are many points to ponder, but I am choosing just one: "sitting vs moving forward".
In the spiritual life, it is often said, if you are not moving forward then you are moving backward. The blind man was sitting (no movement) he wasn't moving forward with the Lord and the Lord IS moving! We all have things that can get in our way of moving forward in our relationship with Christ. For this man, it was his lack of sight, but for you and me what is it? what gets in the way of moving forward with the Lord? The beautiful thing is, this man desires to change it, he shouts out..."Jesus Son of David, have mercy on me!" He asks for help, he is humble enough to acknowledge he needs help. In saying "Son of David" in one sense, he acknowledges Jesus "kingship" over him, by acknowledging his ancestral roots with David the great king. Even the image of Jesus commanding that he be brought to Him, draws the image of a king summoning a subject. Faith became the key that opened the door of healing for the blind man and humility as he knew he couldn't do this on his own and he asked help in order to move forward with the Lord (forward in following Him) A beautiful example for us;
1.) Do I allow Jesus to have "kingship" over my heart? Do I allow Him to rule me? to create order inside me through His Love and Truth. Do I allow His kingship over me, His kingship is one of Peace. Do I allow the peace of Christ to reign in my heart, or do I allow fears to dominate me?
2.) What area today in my life, do I need to pray for an increase of Faith? That I too may see? and rise and walk forward with Jesus as we journey.
3.) Do I pray the "Jesus Prayer" in my day? "Jesus Christ Son of the Living God have mercy on me"
"Do you know the Living Jesus, not from books but from being with Him in your heart? Ask for the grace , He is longing to give it" (Blessed Teresa of Calcutta)
May God Bless You!
