Psalm Response Today in the Mass: Psalm 103
"For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear Him"
+Let us Pray: Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy, draw my heart O Holy Spirit that I love what is holy.
What does it mean to 'Fear the Lord' ? Sacred Scripture says, the Fear of the Lord is the first stage of wisdom (Prov 9). Perhaps one way of understanding the "Fear of the Lord" is to think of it, as the 'proper' disposition of a child of God; to be filled with reverence, respect, gratitude, wonder, awe, trust, knowing the greatness of My Father in Heaven and my utter littleness before Him, perhaps, that "basking" in the lavish Love of the Father but knowing that I have responsibilities in the household of God and I am accountable. Love draws me to want to fulfill those responsibilities not out of fear of punishment, but out of the longing to love the one who loves you, love doesn't want to disappoint the one she/he loves. The Psalm today, says: "so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear Him." Let's give this some thought- What does 'fear' in this context mean? Could it mean loving obedience? or that humble adherence to the Father's will? What does it mean- Let us pray
Prayer: O Holy Spirit I ask you, please bestow upon me, the great gift of Fear of the Lord, let me, remain in awe of God's ways, surrendered every trustful, waiting upon Him with Love. Amen
