A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 5: 38-48
In the Gospel today, our Lord lifts our gaze to our Father in Heaven, who is Mercy and Love. If we read this passage slowly, we notice how our Lord has placed 'perfection' in context with our fellow man. We cannot 'create' our own path to holiness but we can cooperate with the Holy Spirit who often leads us to the cross. Here, in this place of profound interior poverty, is where we encounter Love and this Person of Love who is ready to 'recreate us' in Himself, if we but let Him. By allowing "Goodness" to rise in my heart and rule me, is to allow God's life to 'take over' within me. He does it! I don't! He perfects me! I allow Him entrance and I heed His voice. "Be perfect just as your Heavenly Father is perfect." To be open to the growth of God's life in my soul, requires; Listening, Heeding, Responding and Releasing, Receiving...To be open to God's life growing in my soul, is the most exciting part of Journey, because the impossible becomes possible. What am I most afraid of letting go of? allowing God to do it?
