A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 11:1-45
These are the three words we will ponder here in this Lectio. "And Jesus wept".
Jesus knew what he was going to do. He knew Lazarus had died and He knew he was going to raise Lazarus from the dead, so why did our Lord weep? Do you wonder? Mary the sister of Lazarus says to our Lord: "If you had been here, my brother would not have died." Mary had faith. Mary is right in front of Jesus and she acknowledges, that; "If you had been here, my brother would not have died", she knows Jesus can do the impossible but this belief has not yet made it from her 'head to her heart.' Years ago, I knew a priest who taught us a class on the spiritual life, who would often say; " "The longest journey on this earth is the 12 inches from your head to your heart." Very accurate words. To have living faith is to believe, to make that 'assent of the mind' and to allow that belief which I know to be truth, to make it to my heart so that it resides in the depth of my heart and governs my heart and guards my peace in order that I can allow the Lord to do more! To do what he wants to do, which are miracles in my life, if I but trust him and believe-
