A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 10:38-42
"Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me." The Lord said to her in reply, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing, Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her." The Gospel of the Lord
+Prayer: Come Holy Spirit, enkindle the hearts of the faith and fill them with the fire of your Love.
"There is need of only one thing." Mary did the one thing 'needful', she took the time to stop and listen to Jesus. Simple as that. That's the "one thing needful", taking the time to stop and listen to the Lord. Everything else will go on, but if we don't listen to Jesus, the rest doesn't really matter. The dialogue between Martha and our Lord is so wonderful, so 'raw' and real, just from her heart to His. You can hear the closeness and candor she has with Jesus. The 'best' and the 'worst' always comes out, when you are 'at home' with someone, when you are sure of their love. You can just be yourself and you aren't afraid of being rejected. We can learn from both sisters. To stop and listen to Jesus and when we do, to really be real with Jesus, to speak directly from our heart, not worrying how it all sounds. Just say it, only then can we truly be 'discipled' by Jesus.
Do I take the time, to stop, listen and to really talk to Jesus heart to heart?
