A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew 5:17-37
In the Gospel today we hear our Lord speaking to us about the "movements" of the heart. They are very powerful and can change the very direction we head. Our Lord is reminding us, that here in the heart, is where we either conceive or reject sin. Either I consent to sin or I consent to the Lead of Love in my heart, which is the choice for Christ. "You have heard that it was said to your ancestors; "You shall not kill, and whomever kills will be liable to judgement. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother is liable to judgement." The roots of all sin, begin in the same place; the 'place of consent.' We need Christ in the midst of these temptations, we need Christ ruling our hearts. Until we are convinced of that, we will keep trying and falling and becoming more and more discouraged, more and more angry with ourselves and so with others around us. We need Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Lord, you and I both know, I will only keep falling unless you help me, I ask you, please help me, I need you Jesus, come into my heart, and help me with this 'anger...greed....jealousy...pride..._________name it.
"Do you know the living Jesus, not from books, but from being with Him in your heart, ask for the grace He is longing to give it to you." (St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta)
