I hope you all take the opportunity to enter into the Good Friday service. Today in the service, we hear again the Passion account, but today from the Gospel of John. Take some time today to enter into this account. Last night at the altar of repose after the Holy Thursday Mass, we read together Jesus' "Farewell address" to His disciples in John's Gospel. (Ch 13-17). As I ponder the mystery of all I see of Jesus and hear of Him in the Passion narrative, this last discourse of Jesus to His apostles sheds so much light onto His heart. In John's Gospel it seems he in particular understands Jesus' heart, His intention, His love. There is a lot going on around Jesus in the Passion, meaning much of our ugly humanity. But what is Jesus' response to all this? Mostly silence. Let us 'look upon Him whom they have pierced'. Let us look and see the mystery of Jesus' heart full of love and mercy.
