Gospel Mark 6:30-34
The apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
+Prayer: Lord keep me faithful to you, and never let me be parted from you. Amen
In the Gospel of Mark today we are drawn into a very human moment. The disciples are pouring themselves out and they are tired and hungry and we see Jesus's response of Love. What is it? The invitation to "Come Away" with him and rest awhile away from people.
This interaction between Jesus and his disciples is so beautiful to watch, We don't see Jesus giving them a pep talk to get back out there, as there are many people. We see his delicate care his disciples, that those labor with him, must also take time to rest with Him. There is an important lesson here for us. What is that lesson? Perhaps one lesson is; the work will always be there and it will be demanding and unending at times, but in the midst of it all, we must take courage and walk in the opposite direction of it, and follow Jesus into that 'deserted place' away from it all and be with Him. That doesn't mean we shirk responsibilities, but it does mean that we don't listen to false guilt that makes us not do, what our Lord is actually inviting us into. The work will always be there for all of us, but when was the last time, you "Came Away" to just be with Jesus? There will always be reasons not to, due to work and others expectations, and responsibilities but what about Jesus? He is inviting you right now, to "Come Away" with Him- take some time, and find the time to be with Jesus. Maybe ask your spouse if you could go away for day or two just to be with Jesus and then give them the same gift. If you are single, take control of that calendar and choose time to be with Jesus. You choose it to be with your other friends what about Jesus?
