As I was walking early this morning, the sun was so brightly shining, this photo doesn’t capture even a fraction of the refulgence of light that was beaming! The light somehow was ‘held’ in the morning ground fog, here near the lake. As I walked ‘in the light’ it struck me how different it is to walk ‘with’ light (last night I was walking from the car with my flashlight) and to walk ‘in’ light, this morning’s brilliant sunrise! To walk with light means, in some respects that light illumines things for me and it helps my journey- I can see better. I also can in some respects perhaps, control where that light shines. If I walk with the light, I can perhaps gaze upon the object giving the light, such as a lamp or candle or flashlight. But to walk ‘in’ the light is a little different. It is to be immersed in the light, surrounded and enveloped in the light. Walking ‘in’ the light not only makes my path lit, but also includes me in it! I cannot hold this light like a lamp or candle, and try to look at it; at what is producing the light, so it makes it difficult to control or contain, which is not a bad thing, it is actually doing all the work for me so to speak. I have to do even less Where am I going with this you ask? Well…ponder it- To walk ‘with Christ’ is something beautiful. It is to travel with Light and His Light is there for you and me, as He is source and totality of light. To walk “in Christ’ seems arguably better, it is to be ‘immersed in the very source of Light, surrounded and engulfed in that Light, it is to become apart of what’s light. As followers of Jesus Christ, ‘along the way’ there are many distractions and temptations. We need light to see things clearly. If we live in this Light, if we live IN HIM then all things become clear and we don’t have as much work to do. The only ‘work’ being, to stay ‘in Him.’ And this we find in Communion with God.
Lord Jesus Christ, may I live in you, who are the source of all Light and Life and Love. I love you Jesus Amen
