Gospel JN 20:1-9
On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.
“He saw and believed.” Faith is that interior ‘sight’ that changes everything and reorients our life with great simplicity and clarity and joy. John saw the same things that Peter did and he speaks of himself when he says that “the one who had arrived at the tomb first saw and believed.” He saw the stone in front of the tomb pushed aside. Maybe he came up close to it and just felt it, and tried to push it himself. He saw the burial cloths and looked at them and remembered all the horrific things, that had taken place only days ago and maybe he felt the suffocating fear to not stay too long at the tomb. He saw the cloth that covered Jesus head rolled up in a separate place away from the burial cloths, it was rolled up in a ordered way, something one would do, who is not in a hurry. He saw all of this and something took place in his soul: He believed! Believing in Jesus, Trusting in Jesus changes our entire life. we stop living a life of self protection, planning and control and we begin to live on a higher pitch and that ‘higher pitch’ is Love! Totally embracing the moment, looking for God’s love and presence throughout the day! And in finding Him, growing all the more joyful!
Prayer: Lord increase my faith, let me find you at every moment in others who are with me, in the work I do, let me find you Lord, for to find you, is Joy!
